4 Reasons Tea is the Best Drink of 2020
Your 2020 New Year's resolution should be to DRINK MORE TEA. Here are four reasons why tea is the best drink of 2020:
1. THE ANTIOXIDANTS
Antioxidants. What a buzzword. Nowadays companies slap that word on every food label but the real OG antioxidant beverage, made with just one ingredient, is tea. The tea plant, also known as camellia sinensis, is packed with antioxidants - hard working molecules that fight off harmful compounds linked to illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease and even cancer in your body.
Your body naturally has an antioxidant army that helps defend you from intruders. But in modern society, these intruders have evolved and multiplied. Pollution, stress, Taco Bell, limited exercise, etc. have all added to the free radicals in your body. Drinking antioxidant-packed beverages like tea is more important than ever!
2. THE GOOD KIND OF CAFFEINE
Ever since I started a tea company, I've noticed that some people are hesitant to say the "C-word" in front of me. I'm not a coffee hater; I do enjoy a nice cappuccino from time to time. But I hate the coffee crash. Normal human bodies aren't designed to handle more than two cups of coffee a day. Though you may temporarily be wired and able to type faster at work, your body will go through withdrawals after your liver is done metabolizing the coffee. Since the caffeine in coffee releases faster at an uphill rate - and whatever goes up must come down - your body will crash after drinking too much coffee.
If coffee is your rowdy uncle Scooter, tea is your chill neighbor Leo: a cup of tea has about 1/3 the caffeine of a cup of coffee. But fear not, caffeine monsters - you can ingest more caffeine by simply drinking more cups of tea, which you'll be able to do as tea doesn't suck up every ounce of water in your body. More cups of tea = more water in your body = more caffeine = more happiness!
L-theanine is the not-so-secret amino acid that allows tea to be the star that it is. L-theanine increases the activity of the brain's alpha waves, which increases alertness while relaxing the mind. This study found that L-theanine from a cup of tea helped calm the mind of several anxious individuals experiencing stressful situations. It also prompts the brain to produce dopamine, the same neurotransmitter released when cuddling 💖.
My mom would always tell me to stay away from foods that inflamed your body: "不要上火". Inflammation is your body’s mechanism for removing all the shit we put into our body - metabolic byproducts, debris and foreign agents. Tea contains EGCG, a powerful catechin that helps fight inflammation.
